The castle in western Styria/Austria, the home of Wildbach Schilcher wine, has existed in its beginnings since the early modern period and has been continuously inhabited up to the present day. The former noble residence was converted and expanded into a castle after 1730. It experienced—like its owners—a very eventful past, which reflects the political and social development of this western Styrian region and its ties to the former Lower Styria. Over the centuries, the women of these important Styrian families have shaped and continue to shape the development and appearance of the castle estate, which has now been newly renovated. Among its owners were Styrian governors, high-ranking politicians as well as university professors and leading jurists such as the important Graz legal scholar Univ. Prof. Dr. Walter Wilburg. In addition to a comprehensive presentation of the castle’s history from the beginnings to today and an in-depth description of the building fabric, the documentation contains numerous deeds, maps, illustrations and plans with and about the castle. Contemporary-historical aspects are presented through “oral history”.

Hardbound, 21 cm x 29 cm with laminated, color-printed cardboard cover, 137 pages with supplements, 11 color plates and 4 A3 fold-out maps.
